Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour the structure that keeps the center tender
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar balances cocoa’s bittersweet notes
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder for deep chocolate flavor; Dutch-processed works too
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder optional, for a slightly cakier texture
  • 1 pinch salt heightens sweetness and chocolate nuance
Wet Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons milk (dairy or plant-based) adds creaminess; use almond for a lighter finish
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter for fudgy richness; coconut oil adds a gentle tropical note
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract brightens the chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips or chopped chocolate molten pockets of joy

Method

Preparation
  1. Choose a microwave-safe mug (10 to 12 ounces) and lightly grease the inside with oil or butter.
  2. Add the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir gently with a fork to combine.
  3. Stir in the milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. The batter should be slightly thick but pourable.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips, saving a few for the top.
Cooking
  1. Microwave on high for 40 seconds, then check. If it’s still jiggly, microwave in 10-second bursts until set.
  2. Let the mug rest for 30 seconds to finish cooking.
Serving
  1. Top as desired with ice cream, caramel, or powdered sugar.
  2. Spoon straight from the mug and enjoy.

Notes

Mug brownies are best fresh. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours and reheat in the microwave.
