Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium-sized apples (choose Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for balance) Best for caramelizing
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For rich flavor; can substitute with coconut oil for a vegan option
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adds depth and sweetness; feel free to reduce for less sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warm hug in the form of spice!
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To enhance flavors
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional) To brighten flavors; particularly good with sweeter apples

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing, peeling, and coring your apples. Cut them into slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, letting it bubble gently.
  2. Once the butter is melted, add the sliced apples to the skillet and gently stir to coat each piece well.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt over the apples and stir.
  4. Allow the apples to cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender.
  5. If using lemon juice, drizzle it over the apples in the last minute of cooking.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on low heat, adding a splash of water to revive the sauce.
