Ingredients

Onions
  • 2 large large onions Use sweet onions for a milder flavor and excellent caramelization.
Base Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter Adds a rich base; olive oil can be swapped for a healthier option.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Make sure it's softened for smooth mixing.
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese A classic choice, but feel free to mix in your favorite varieties.
  • ½ cup sour cream Greek yogurt is a good substitute for a healthier option.
  • to taste salt and pepper Essential for balancing flavors.

Method

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 15–20 minutes or until the onions are deeply golden and fragrant.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. Stir until well blended.
  3. Once the onions are caramelized, fold them into the cheese mixture, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the dip into a baking dish and smooth out the top. Bake for about 15–20 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly.
  5. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Pair it with fresh vegetables, crackers, or your favorite bread.

Notes

Try different cheeses like mozzarella or fontina for a gooey texture. For an extra kick, mix in cayenne pepper or hot sauce. During fall, incorporate roasted pumpkin or butternut squash for a seasonal twist.
