Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Choose lean beef for a healthier option or go for a fattier cut for richer flavor.
  • 8 ounces mushrooms Fresh mushrooms add depth, but you can also use canned if you're in a pinch.
  • 1 small onion, diced Adds aromatic sweetness; frozen diced onions can be used.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic infuses depth, or you can use garlic powder.
  • 1 cup sour cream Can substitute with Greek yogurt for a lighter alternative.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup This is the base of your creamy sauce—homemade is great if you have the time!
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds a savory kick.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential for balancing the flavors.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional) A melty topping of cheddar or mozzarella elevates the dish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until it’s fully cooked.
  3. Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
  4. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes until they release their moisture and become tender.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended.
  6. Pour the creamy sauce over the beef and mushrooms, mixing well until everything is generously coated. Transfer this mixture into a greased casserole dish.
  7. If using cheese, sprinkle it over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Once baked to perfection, remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
