Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Thinly slice the potatoes into approximately 1/8-inch rounds.
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, sautéed garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat.
Layering
- Layer half of the potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Pour half of the heavy cream over the first layer, then sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
Baking
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- After 40 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For additional flavors, add fresh herbs or experiment with different cheeses. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
