Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Thinly slice the potatoes into approximately 1/8-inch rounds.
  3. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, sautéed garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat.
Layering
  1. Layer half of the potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
  2. Pour half of the heavy cream over the first layer, then sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  3. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  2. After 40 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  3. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For additional flavors, add fresh herbs or experiment with different cheeses. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
