Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound Ziti Pasta You can substitute with penne or rigatoni if needed.
  • 24 ounces Marinara Sauce Store-bought for convenience or homemade for depth of flavor.
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese You can swap for cottage cheese for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, shredded Use fresh for maximum gooeyness, but pre-shredded works in a pinch.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated For a salty, nutty finish.
  • 2 cloves Fresh Garlic, minced Fresh adds depth; garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil Used for sautéing and enhancing flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning A blend of herbs that elevates the whole dish.
  • to taste Salt and Pepper Necessary for bringing all flavors together.

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the ziti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, Italian seasoning, half of the mozzarella, salt, and pepper. Stir until well-coated.
  5. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the ziti mixture. Sprinkle a layer of Parmesan cheese, then pour the remaining ziti on top. Finish with the rest of the mozzarella.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the ziti rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

To add a vegetarian twist, include spinach or zucchini. For a heartier option, add ground beef or sausage. Enjoy with garlic bread and salad!
