Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head Cabbage Choose a vibrant green cabbage for a crunchy texture.
  • 6-8 slices Bacon Thick-cut bacon enhances the flavor; turkey bacon is a great substitute.
  • 1 large Onion Sweet onions add delicious depth; shallots work beautifully, too.
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic, minced Adds a fragrant punch.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For added richness, but olive oil can offer a lighter option.
  • to taste Salt and Pepper To enhance natural flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar Adds a slight tang that balances the dish beautifully.

Method

Preparation
  1. Chop cabbage into bite-sized pieces, dice the onion, and mince the garlic.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove bacon and drain on paper towels.
  2. In the same skillet with bacon drippings, sauté the chopped onion for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to coat with flavors. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and apple cider vinegar. Simmer for another 5-8 minutes until cabbage is tender yet crunchy.
  5. Crumble bacon over the pan and toss to combine before serving.

Notes

For a kick, add red pepper flakes or chopped jalapeños. Substituting Brussels sprouts or kale is also a great option.
