Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed (optional)
Taco Assembly
  • Corn or flour tortillas
  • Fresh toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, avocado, sour cream, and salsa
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it up and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and stir well, allowing the spices to coat the meat evenly. If using black beans, add them now and stir to combine.
Final Steps
  1. In a separate dry skillet, gently warm the tortillas for a few seconds on each side until pliable.
  2. Place a generous scoop of the seasoned beef mixture onto each tortilla and let everyone add their favorite toppings.
  3. Brighten up the table with a sprinkle of fresh cilantro, and serve with lime wedges for an extra zing!

Notes

Feel free to customize these tacos with your favorite toppings or substitute ground beef for turkey or lentils for a healthier option. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
