Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Provides the delightful structure.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Balances the bread's savory flavors.
  • 2 teaspoons salt Enhances flavor.
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast Magic ingredient for rising.
  • 1 ½ cups warm water Creates a perfect environment for yeast.
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter Adds rich flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it’s frothy and bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the melted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the risen dough to release the air, then divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  6. Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven, brush with a little extra melted butter, and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider adding garlic and herbs for Garlic Herb Rolls, stuffing with cheese for Cheese-Stuffed Rolls, or mixing in cinnamon and sugar for sweet Cinnamon Rolls. Storage: Keep leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
