Ingredients

For the sliders
  • 12 pieces soft dinner rolls, split in half horizontally Hawaiian rolls are classic.
  • 12 to 16 ounces thinly sliced deli ham Smoky or honey-glazed for extra personality.
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced thin Melts beautifully; Gruyere works too.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Creates a golden, savory top crust.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds gentle tang and depth.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds Optional, for a diner-style finish.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Warm and aromatic.
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley Brightens and freshens the richness.
  • Salt and cracked black pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking dish or sheet pan with parchment for easy cleanup.
  2. Slice the dinner rolls horizontally but keep the tops and bottoms intact as sheets. Place the bottom layer in the prepared dish.
  3. Layer the ham evenly over the rolls, folding slices so each bite has meaty goodness. Next, place the Swiss cheese slices across the ham.
  4. Place the top layer of rolls back on gently, forming the sandwich 'loaf.'
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper. Pour or brush this mixture generously over the top of the rolls.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Then remove foil and bake an additional 5–8 minutes until the tops are glossy and golden.
  7. Remove from oven, let sit for 2 minutes to make slicing easier, then cut into individual sliders and serve hot.

Notes

Make spicy sliders by swapping Dijon for chipotle mayo or adding jalapeno slices. For vegetarian options, use marinated tempeh or roasted veggies. The sliders can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for fresh-baked aroma when served.
