Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean beef for a healthier option or opt for grass-fed for richer flavor.
  • 1 small onion, diced Fresh onions add depth; you can substitute with shallots for sweetness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic provides an aromatic kick; jarred garlic works too in a pinch.
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder This gives it that characteristic taco flavor; adjust according to your spice preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin Adds earthiness; feel free to substitute with smoked paprika for a different twist.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for seasoning; remember it’s easier to add than to remove!
  • 6 Taco shells or tortillas Flour or corn, whichever you prefer; make your own for an indulgent touch.
Toppings
  • as needed Shredded lettuce
  • as needed Diced tomatoes
  • as needed Cheese
  • as needed Sour cream
  • as needed Avocado
  • as needed Salsa Feel free to get creative!

Method

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat a splash of oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until soft and fragrant.
  3. Push the onions to the side and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula, cooking until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain off excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure every morsel is coated with flavors.
  5. Lower the heat and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. While the meat simmers, warm your taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions.
  7. Fill each taco shell with the beef mixture, and pile on your chosen toppings.

Notes

Healthier Swap: Use turkey or chicken instead of beef for a leaner option. Vegetarian Variation: Substitute the beef with black beans or lentils, seasoned with similar spices for a hearty meatless taco.
