Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Toss the cubed bread and blueberries in the prepared dish, distributing berries evenly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream (if using), maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and melted butter until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the custard evenly over the bread and berries, pressing down gently with a spatula.
- Let it sit for 10 minutes if using very fresh bread; otherwise, proceed directly to baking.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with butter, maple syrup, and powdered sugar. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze baked slices for up to 2 months. Reheat individual slices in the microwave or oven.
