Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage Or your favorite meat substitute for a lighter option
  • 8 large eggs Free-range or organic for richer flavor
  • 2 cups milk Almond or oat milk for a dairy-free choice
  • 4 cups bread cubes Feel free to use leftover bread for added texture
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Cheddar is classic, but Swiss or pepper jack adds a twist
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For that extra depth
  • Salt and pepper To taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a large bowl. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, beating until smooth.
  4. Layer the bread cubes evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  5. Spread the cooked sausage atop the bread, followed by a generous sprinkle of cheese.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layers and gently press down with a spatula to help everything blend.
  7. Top with any remaining cheese, then cover the dish with foil.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

Feeling adventurous? Add bell peppers, spinach, or sautéed onions for extra nutrition. Fresh herbs like chives or parsley make a great topping. For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or hot sauce.
