Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium-sized apples (a mix of sweet and tart like Fuji and Granny Smith) Choose a mix for depth of flavor
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For sweet caramelization; substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier option
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warm spice that ties everything together; nutmeg is a lovely alternative
  • 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries Adds a chewy texture; feel free to omit if you prefer a simpler version
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts Walnuts or pecans work wonderfully; skip for a nut-free dish
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For richness; coconut oil can be used for a dairy-free option
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice To balance sweetness and prevent browning

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Core each apple with an apple corer or a small knife, making sure to remove the tough core.
  3. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, chopped nuts, and lemon juice.
  4. Generously fill each apple with the mixture, packing it closely.
  5. Place the stuffed apples upright in a baking dish and dot the tops with butter.
  6. Pour about 1/2 cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until tender and slightly caramelized.
  2. Let them cool for a moment and serve warm.

Notes

To reheat leftovers, use the microwave for about 30-60 seconds or warm in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or simply as is.
