  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens flavors and prevents apple browning.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Adjust to taste for desired sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Feel free to add nutmeg or ginger for extra spice.
For the Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats Quick oats can be substituted.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Whole wheat flour can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Coconut oil or vegan butter can be used as substitutes.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the bottom of your slow cooker, spreading it out evenly.
  4. In another bowl, mix rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and melted butter until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples evenly.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
  2. Once done, uncover the slow cooker and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
