Ingredients

For the salad
  • 1 package 6-ounce package strawberry Jell-O or gelatin mix, classic flavor and color
  • 1 cup boiling water to dissolve the gelatin completely
  • 1 cup cold water to cool the mix before adding dairy
  • 1 container 8-ounce container frozen whipped topping, thawed for that signature fluff texture; use homemade whipped cream for a creamier version
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows old-school sweetness and chew
  • 1 can 20-ounce can crushed pineapple, drained adds tropical sweetness and a little juice for texture
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced brightens the salad and gives fresh strawberry texture
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional for crunch and a nutty bite

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, pour the boiling water over the strawberry Jell-O powder and whisk until completely dissolved.
  2. Stir in the cold water and let the mixture cool for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Add the drained crushed pineapple and miniature marshmallows to the cooled gelatin.
  4. Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until the color is uniform and light.
  5. Fold in the sliced strawberries and, if using, chopped nuts.
Chilling
  1. Pour the salad into a serving bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Give the salad a gentle stir before serving to fluff it up.

Notes

For a lighter version, swap Greek yogurt for half of the whipped topping. This salad is not suitable for freezing.
