Ingredients

For the Lasagna
  • 9 pieces Lasagna Noodles Traditional or no-boil noodles
  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese Can substitute with cottage cheese
  • 4 cups Mozzarella Cheese Shredded whole milk mozzarella recommended
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Can be replaced with nutritional yeast for a dairy-free option
  • 2 ts Italian Seasoning Blend of herbs like basil and oregano
  • 2 cups Marinara Sauce Store-bought or homemade
  • 1 large Egg Beaten, helps bind the cheese
  • 1 ts Salt Essential for flavor enhancement
  • 1/2 ts Pepper Essential for flavor enhancement

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil the traditional lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Skip this step if using no-boil varieties.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  4. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layering and Baking
  1. Begin layering: noodles, cheese mixture, more marinara sauce, and more mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella on top.
  2. Cover with foil to prevent sticking and bake for about 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  4. Let the lasagna rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

You can add layers of steamed spinach, zucchini, or mushrooms for extra nutrition. Substitute whole grain pasta for a lighter option.
