Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the traditional lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Skip this step if using no-boil varieties.
- In a large bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layering and Baking
- Begin layering: noodles, cheese mixture, more marinara sauce, and more mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil to prevent sticking and bake for about 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
You can add layers of steamed spinach, zucchini, or mushrooms for extra nutrition. Substitute whole grain pasta for a lighter option.
