1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Take a large mixing bowl, and beat the softened butter and sugar until it becomes light and fluffy.
- Now add vanilla extract and egg to butter and sugar mixture. Beat until everything mix well.
- Take a separate bowl, and mix dry ingredients like flour, salt and baking powder. Sift the ingredients to mix everything well.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients to the wet ingredient mixture. Mix everything well, until it forms a soft cookie dough. Now, if the dough becomes too sticky, you can add a little more flour to set everything back.
- Time to roll and cut the sugar cookies on a flat floured surface. Roll the dough flat using a cookie roller to about 1/4th inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough.
- Now take a parchment lined baking sheet and place the cut-out cookies on that lined sheet, leaving a little space between each cookie.
- Place the parchment lined baking sheet in preheated oven for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges turned light golden. But be careful not to overcook.
- After baking, don’t remove the cookies from baking sheet instantly. let the sugar cookies cool on baking sheet for at least 3 to 5 minutes and then transfer them to a wire rack to cool them completely.
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, you can decorate them with icing, sprinkles or any other decorations you like.
- Enjoy your delicious homemade sugar cookies!
